Pretty baby girl – Zuri Victoria! Man, I seriously have the best named little clients. Zuri’s mommy contacted me very early on for her newborn session. They live in Saskatoon and were a little concerned about making the 2 hour drive out to my studio in the middle of March. Which is a very valid concern when travelling with a 10 day old baby and especially being that Zuri was her first baby. Her momma and I chatted on the phone about all of her questions and concerns. I get it! I’ve been there… I was likely the most worried person on the planet when it came to travelling with my first baby…and in the middle of December no less! I assured her that, even though we set a time for your session, I by no means expect you to be here right on time. I’m super easy going and we texted back and forth about the weather in the days leading up to her session. As it was, little miss arrived wide awake for her session (something that we try to prevent, but after sleeping for two hours during the trip here it was inevitable, and I mentioned that to her mommy before hand. As long as you’re ok hanging out and chatting while we ride out baby until they are sleepy, I’m more than happy to hang out with you). So, as I do with everyone, I set mom up to be nice and comfortable, grabbed her a coffee and got her settled in the rocking chair in my studio. She fed Zuri and handed her over to me so I could work my magic. You see, I’ve done this lots. I’ve gotten to the point where I have perfected my session flow. I don’t fumble and freak out if baby doesn’t sleep. And sleep she didn’t, for the first two hours she was here. But I wrapped her up and started shooting away. We got some awesome, perfect awake shots and then, like it always does, the snug, warm wrap lulled her off into dream land. And the result was absolute PERFECTION!
And she just couldn’t resist my ‘sick’ wrapping skills 😉
I took her from this beanbag pose straight into the bowl pose. Right there I get two setups without having to disturb baby.
See that adorable little stuffy?? Ya, I made that! No big deal lol
Her daddy bought that little bracelet just for her….
I love these little profiles!
Her two biggest protectors! Georgia (the boxer) was very concerned about Zuri throughout the whole session. She sat right by me and watched my every move.
(She was probably watching so I didn’t step outta line or she’d eat me lol! I’m just joking. She really is the sweetest!)
I also knitted that little romper Zuri is wearing. I pretty much hand make all of my props. I am super picky about the fabrics and fibres of them, as well as the look of them. I prefer dainty, soft, organic and neutral. I think it allows that perfect little baby stand out and not get swallowed up in huge, brightly coloured and god awful props that are chosen just because it’s a prop.
Holding the whole world in their hands…
